How to Fix the red light syndrome on alphabox decoders

If my memory serves me correctly, T-link decoder used to have power problems, Qsat is synonymous with the infamous crystal oscillatory problem. All of these are serious hardware problems that can only be fixed by replacing the faulty IC. It has come to my notice that Alphabox decoders have their own frustrating hardware/IC problems known as “Flash IC“.

This post did not come earlier because I do not have any copy of Alphabox at hand. A follower of this site in the persona of Joseph Makunguru offered me the much-needed respite when he sent a picture showing the location of the IC to me. You can easily fix alphabox red light problems by replacing the faulty IC. This is more closely related to Qsat’s display problem than to T-link power issue.

Causes of the red light problem on Alphabox

In very rare occasions, this can be a factory fault. However most times, you are the cause of the problem. The red light issue occurs on any Alphabox that is being upgraded with an incompatible software. We have desperate times and desperate measures. Everyone wants to watch sports 24 HD but not everyone owns a decoder that can auto roll it currently. As a result of this, installers and end-consumers alike are trying to work around this.

Unfortunately, alphabox is not a rugged box that allows extreme tweaking. If you try it just once, you are in for it.In a nutshell, you will most likely experience a red light no boot problem on your alphabox if you upgrade it with a wrong software.

Every day, more decoders are receiving software upgrade for MTN worldwide. Users of older alpha boxes will have to wait much longer for things to happen. No guarantees as these boxes may not receive the patch software after all.

If you are not an engineer, please do not try this yourself. However, if you are like me who can do several things perfectly without being a professional in those things, you can risk it yourself. Whatever the case may be, you have little to lose. If you don’t fix it, your box will remain dead. If you do all things right, you will have your alphabox back.

The target IC is exactly like what is in the picture below. The pictures is that of Alphabox X4+ But it is the same with the x4, x6 and x6+. Once you have located it yourself, take your box to a technician to help you buy and replace it. If you are in Alaba international market in Lagos Nigeria, good for you. Those guys there will fix it in no time. If you need help procuring it, you may contact me. But will it be worth it?

I will advise you forget about reviving a dead Alphabox x4, x6, or x4+ if all you need it for is sport 24 HD because it can’t be used for it just yet. However, if you brick your Alphabox x6+ which you have been using for powervu, you will want to revive it ASAP. At least before MTN worldwide goes off.

Finally, check the site homepage for the updates on decoders and new software available for MTN worldwide powervu Auto roll function

Hello Lemmy, I turned off my alphabox x6+ decoder and went to town. When I returned home and switched it on, it keeps rebooting and doesn’t open the channels. Please kindly help me with a solution. Thanks and hoping to hear from you soon.

@ziyaaba: please try and reload the software via the boot menu. Or can you access the decoder’s menu currently?

Hello Mr. Lemmy, what’s the solution if during upgrading power went off and decoder failed to startup again after the power return?
