One of the apparent lows of the new DStv HD decoder is the removal of the RF-in for the extra view. I am happy to inform you that there is a workaround for this(Although the initial investment is huge ). Luckily, this tweak is permanent. I received this from a Ghanaian follower of this site that goes by the username: “shaqman” he is an installer and a dealer in Ghana. DStv HD 5 Series(Zappa) decoder XtraView connection is easy even on your own. Just follow the instructions below before this. Let me briefly run a recap of what DStv extra view entails. This service is designed to enable you to use one subscription on at least two DStv decoders. For example, if you have a Dstv premium sub and you want to enjoy it both in your room and in the living room, the Extra-View/XtraView is the way to go.
This was as simple as ABC with the previous HD decoder and on the explora. The new HD decoder makes it tricky to do. In fact, you can’t do it out of the box. That is why you need to read this tutorial if you don’t already know how to go about this. In addition, you will pay a service charge of #2,600 for the Extra-View/XtraView. In other words, DStv Extra-View/XtraView is not free of charge.

DStv HD 5 Series(Zappa) decoder XtraView Connection Requirements
- Two DStv Zappa decoder. You will use one as the primary.
- DStv Smart LNB(bought separately from the DStv office) this cost between 10,000 to 13,000 Nigeria currency
- Your dish, a regular LNBf, and other dish components like coaxial cable
- You need a professional satellite installer for this. Although you give it a shot yourself if you know.
- Pay for Dstv Extra-View/XtraView subscription. This will go along with your chosen subscription.
DStv HD 5 Series(Zappa) Decoder XtraView Configuration
This configuration works perfectly with the Model 5 and 6 DStv Single view HD decoders. These models are 5S/5U and don’t have RF OUT. The only way to get ExtraView/XtraView running on them is by using DStv smart LNBf. Read on to learn how to set this up as an end-user or an Installer.
- Track DStv on 36e and get a high signal strength. Learn how to easily track DStv or any other satellite here.
- Next, replace the regular LNB with the smart LNB.
- Connect one cable to uni-cable A and another to uni-cable C. As shown above
*Connect the A to the primary decoder and the C to the secondary decoder.

Method 2: DStv decoder extra-view/XtraView configuration on Series 5s/5u models
With recent technological advancements, you are not restricted to watching only one station at a time despite the hundreds of stations you subscribed to on DStv. With the Extra-View/XtraView feature, DStv lets you watch multiple DStv programs simultaneously in different rooms.
This means that the kids can watch the cartoon in the bedroom, the dad can enjoy the game in the lounge, and the mum can keep up with her favorite soap opera in her bedroom simultaneously. Everyone stays happy.
You only need multiple compatible decoders and televisions to access this unique feature. You will not need a second dish for XtraView. The single-view decoders supported by this feature include:
-
DStv HD Single View Decoder 4137 5S/5U – (Stand-Alone)
Apart from the decoders, MultiChoice recommends using an 80cm dish and their Smart LNB for all new Extra-View/XtraView installations.
Hi Lemmy. I always lose a signal on my Model 6S decoder setup as a secondary decoder for extraview. My Primary decoder is an Explora Model 2A. I constantly have to call Dstv to have working for a day or 2. Another thing I noticed is that I cannot change the Lnb type to (Unicable) on the Model 6S decoder and can only find (Universal) and Smat tv options. They are both directly connected to the Smart Lnb outside with the explora on Unicable port A and Model 6S on univedsal port respectively. Please help

Hi Lemmy,
Please I have already connected my two explora decoders for xtraview , but I dont want the xtraview again. So how do I separate the xtraview subscription?
@kassim: when your subscription expires and you refuse to renew, ut will stop. Then you can disconnect the hb cable and reset your decoder with installation wizard. Please read my how to install explora for the default settings of dstv decoders
Can someone also use diplexers 2 connect xtraview 2.?
I mean without using xplora
@Jeriblest: yes you will need a diplexer for any xtraview-compatible dstv decoder that doesn’t come with an inbuilt diplexer. Please read this to learn more: How to Combine and Setup XtraView/Extra view on Various DStv Decoders(old and new)
Good day, LM. Can a Switch 5 -2be used to pass aa extraview heartbeat in stead of a cable from decoder to a decoder?
i have explorer 1(Primary) and Explorer 3A(Secondary) getting satCr connection from Switch 5- 2
@Setty: Explora 3A has no option for RF heartbeat, therefore, you can’t get heartbeat via rf from it. Secondly, it is not compatible with the switch. Please read this article to learn how to proceed: How to Combine and Setup XtraView/Extra view on Various DStv Decoders(old and new)
Comment *Lemmy pls I have HD 4s as primary and HD 5s as secondary though a dstv installer have changed the lnb to smart but I’m not satisfied with the connection it is what I can do by myself… it’s work for 10 to 5mins and stop working with error 430-0. please help bro. thanks
@Opeyemi: call DStv to help you switch the xtraview to the 5S and make your 5S the primary decoder. Then you can use a diplexer in the back of your 4s. Overall, 4S doesn’t always work well when combined with 5S. Secondly, can you paste the error message you are getting when the service stops after 10 minutes? Finally, consider reading the following articles; How to Combine and Setup XtraView/Extra view on Various DStvDecoders(old and new) and Fix “No communication from Primary Decoder E143-0” During Xtraview Installation
Thanks Lemme,
After some fault finding I found the HB cable faulty. Problem solved 😉
@Marcus: that is good to hear
Hi Lemme,
Thank you for the reply. I checked the RF plugs and its fine. I changed the ports on the SLNB from B & C to A & B, then it worked for around 30min before giving an E143 error again. The last HB was when I changed the connections on the SLNB. Same happened last night. Everytime I fiddle with the diplexer or the SLNB it works for a while then I get the error.
@Marcus: please bring the primary and secondary decoders close to each other and see what happens. Also, hope your diplexer is at the the back of the old PVR? Have you made sure the Diplexer is correctly installed?. dISTANCE MATTERS NOW if you are connecting old dstv decoders
Hi Lemme,
I’ve added xtraview, old PVR (primary) and 5U (secondary).
RFout on primary PVR to ANT on diplexer.
SatCR on primary PVR to SAT on diplexer.
I/O on diplexer to Port A on SLNB.
Port B on SLNB to secondary 5U decoder.
Had picture for a few hours then got E143 error (No comms from primary).
What could be the problem?
@Marcus: Please check if the RF In/RF Out cable is tightly connected to both decoders.

@Mikky: you need to use the one without smartcard as primary. It will be compatible if you use them with smart LNB and a deplexer
No, am using explorer 2. Now the it seems am getting there because if my Explora is showing let’s say Channels, the Zapper will write the There is no signal message error 48, but if a change the station on Zapper, it will show but my Explora will show the error message.
Please what’s wrong here?
@Maxwell: did you use a diplexer for your zapper or is it the latest DStv HD DECODER?
Yes, am using the smart LNB with 4 ports( 1 universal and 3 unicable) I have used combiner for the xplorer and the Explora 2( Model 31, Software FORTUNA-6a720b) is showing but the HD 5 decoder is showing error 48-32.
Meanwhile, in my easy.dstv portal, both decoder status is Active, also tried to clear the error, and also changed the ports

Hello Lemmy, please I wanted to connect my DSTv Explora for xtraview with my HD 5 zapper, the subscription is there. The cable from the LNB to the xplorer decoder is ok, I connected another one from the LNB(the second port next to where the xplorer is connected to) to the zapper. I used the combiner and the Explora works fine, while the zapper is showing only DSTv channel 100. But sayin No communication from primary decoder…. etc
What went wrong

@Immanuel: with old explorer, you need a deplexer
Can one use extra view on two dstv HD decoders? Because I read on your page that explora must be one of them. But I have two dstv HD decoders
@Abayomi: Yes you can with as long as you are using the new Dstv HD decoder. the one without a smartcard

Dear Lemmy , this is my set up, I have an explorer connected to smart lnb (unicable A) and new HD decoder connected to diplexer/combiner(1 to universal cable on smart lnb and 2 to explorer rf) this set up was working fine on xtraview but now its not, please what is the ideal connection for EXPLORER + HD DECODER XTRAVIEW. Thanks
@Chuck: please just make sure you change the user bands. Secondly, make sure your HD decoder is not up to 30 meters far from your LNBf.
I used the above instructions for both the Primary (5s) and Secondary (5u). It has an E143-0 Error message. How do I solve this?
@Lesilie: you will need a diplexer for the decoders. How did you set up your connection please?
Comment *Hi Morgan well done ooh

@Austin: I think is a security or let me call it vulnerability patch. We are not as advanced as those in europe or America remember? Maybe some group are hacking them through that.

Hi Lemmy tell me is it possible that one can comnect up a 4u decoder and 5s for extraview using a twin unicable smart lnb?..
Where can I get deflexers for the new dstv and old hd 5
Hi Lemmy, I have an explora in my living room and model 5S (new one) in the bedroom.
Explora is connected with a diplexer/combiner and RF out to an LMX500 Smart LNB to Unicable A. The 5S is connected to unicable C direct to the decoder, but getting error 143-0 (no heartbeat).Channel 100 plays perfectly. Pulled in a new cable to the 5S from the LNB but does not solve it. Even shortening it to 3 metres between the LNB and 5s decoder still does not fix it. Only cable I have not replaced is the explora cable (which is about 10 metres from LNB) Any other ideas? Does the LMX500 support the heartbeat or do I need an LMX501
@Mark: check this link to see if you get the settings right https://www.lemmymorgan.com/3-dstv-decoders-xtraview-settings/
There is no need to use a deplexer you just need a smart lnb and three coaxial cable for it to communicate.
Hello Lemmy.i have the old dstv decoder and the new zapper decoder connected in extra view via the diplexer(combiner)sold by dstv. The setup worked perfectly for 5 Months before is started having issues. The error message I get is E143-0 (No communication between from primary decoder). The cables and coonections are in good condition. If I bring the secondary decoder close to the primary decoder the setup works fine.I’ve called customer care and they keep telling me its a distance issue(The distance between both decoders is not more than 18M ).Kindly assist bro.Tayo.
@Awodele: please shorten your distance or replace your coaxial cable and see what happens.
Thank you Lemmy for your response.I’ve replaced the cable ,still same issues. After calling dstv for days for solution, one of their technical staffs told me that as a result of their recent upgrade, extra view will no longer work on the new zapper decoder if the distance between the primary and secondary decoder is more than 15m.If you need to use extra view and the distance between the decoders is more than 15m ,then you have to use explora decoders as both primary and secondary decoder. Regards.
@Awodele Temitayo: I guess this is to mitigate the idea of inter-house/compound cabling by some of their subscribers. And also to encourage the purchase of their Explora decoder.
Mr Morgan .please I have a diplexer , a normal twin LNB an old zapper decoder and the new model 5 decoder.can I do a successful extra view? please sir I need a quick response. May God bless u.
@Benedict: you need a smart LNB for your DStv.
If I connect the DStv switch from the dual LNB instead of smart, will it still not work?
@Machupe: dual lnb will not work for xtraview on the new decoder
Thank you
Hi Lemmy, i have been trying to connect 2 zappa decoders but i keep getting the “e143-0 no communication from primary decoder error” after i made sure the cabling between the decoders is good. Thanks for the great job you’re doing.

Hi Lemmy… I mean connecting 2 explora Decoder and Hd5 Decoder for 3rd viewing…. Want to watch 3 channels
Hi Morgan,
I use two HD 5s single decoders (the new type) with an ordinary lnb for xtraview. Within the last week of March 2018, the secondary went off indicating “No communication with primary decoder (E143-0). I have struggled with it for several times until i read your post. I went ahead to buy the dstv smart lnb on 11 May 18 and did the connection myself as explained in your blogs. The primary decoder is working without any problem. However, the secondary has failed to work after using the secondary decoder settings as recommended. Please can you advise on the way forward? Thanks.
@yao: change the settings for the secondary. Search my site for how to connect three dstv for xtraview
Hi Morgan,

@Segun: You mean the signal strength from the dish?
But please can we use two way splitter for the new decoders instead of smart lnb
@anderson: no you can’t
Hi Lemmy;pls does this mean we don’t need a “heartbeat” cable connection between the two 5u HD decoders for xtraview? Also, when paying for xtraview prior to above connection process, we need to provide the details of the secondary decoder that we want to pair with? Thanks
@anthony: there is no need for any heartbeat cable.
Thanks for your prompt response. Pls, when paying for xtraview prior to above connection process, we need to provide the details of the secondary decoder that we want to pair with?
Engineer Lemmy, how can I install the new dstv single view decoder system plus extra view Dstv decoder system since it does not have RF in RF out again
I can’t do xtra view between the HD Zappar Decoder and the Explora2. The HD5, as they call it is the primary but the signal is lost between the two (E143). I have seen your advice on the new HD Zappar but it only talked of two Zappars…does this work out even for Zappar and Explora2. I am going to try though and will update asap.
sir pls how do i configure two explorer for dual view? what are the settings i need.
does this step also applies to explorer? i mean can i enter the above values for connecting 2 explorers? thanks
@wale: search the site for explora-specific settings
hi Lemmy can this setup work on two separate dishes but both using smart lnb?for example if i want the primary decoder to be at home and secondary at my office.
@SIKUZ; How far is your home from the office? If it is within a few meters away, it should work
It’s about 500m
Hi Lemmy Morgan first of all I would like to congratulate you for this help full explanations, DSTv just make changes to make us suffer, I’m from Mozambique and I use to install dishes for my clients it’s my hobbie today I went to a DSTv authorized dealers to buy a new HD decoder to make extra view with the older that I bought last year December the last brands of DSTv before this one without a musical cards and without a RF connectors, I bought a twin LNB but now I’m crazy because in the older decoder there’s RF entrance in and out but in the new it is absent how would I do the communication cable? With other accessories should I bought? Please advise and this configuration supplied in this qote is for this two different decoders? Works? Thanks in advance hope to hear from you soon. Kind regards from Belmiro Sitole directly from Mozambique
@Belmiro: Please use a smart LNB. Read the article all over and you will understand better

@tym: which type of code?
Hi Morgan, i have an explora decoder and i want it to work extra view with the new decoder without RF, with the explora as the Primary, how do i go about it? I have both a smart lnb &diplexer switch. ???
@Peter: search the site for how to connect explora to zappa.
Oga, there’s no article explaining how to connect an explora 2 and HD decoder 5s in xtraview on your website. We really need this explanation.
MIKE LOWREY: Please take your 5S decoder to your nearest service centre or agency – they need to swap it for you. There was a problem with those decoders in an XtraView set up, so you do need to swap it out else your XtraView won’t work.
Does it really matter if i did not do freq setting and have mixed the xtraview connection of two Zappa 5u decoders for either A or C?
@Setty: please follow the instructions here as it is: https://www.lemmymorgan.com/new-dstv-decoder-extra-view-configuration/
I went to buy zapper decoders from DSTV for extra view but was told not available. So they told me that if I can get it anywhere that I should bring it they will link the two decoders for me. I want to buy two zapper decoders but I don’t know how it looks. Can you please describe it for me. And the linking of the two dedocoders and the configuring you are talking about here, is it the same? Thanks in advance
@Canaan: This article offers the solution you seek https://www.lemmymorgan.com/new-dstv-decoder-extra-view-configuration/

Hi Morgan, I have a DSTV Explora 2 and an hd 4u decoder. Both are paired; the Explora is the primary and the HD 4u is the secondary however, the secondary is waiting for signal from the primary whereas the primary decoder in the xtra view setting is idle. How do I solve this?
@thomas nimely : have you followed my guide? Do you use a smart lnb? Did you input the settings?
Yes I followed your instructions but the communication from the primary decoder is still idle. I am using the smart Lnb. Do I need a DSTV multiswitch for this because I am not using it.
@Thomas: you need the multiswitch
