Nigeria is a very dynamic country. We can never cease to have one hot news/gist or the other. After Evan’s(the kidnapper) arrest, the next big thing is the imminent launch of TSTV Africa Nigeria Limited. This is the word on every lip. The writing of most news and entertainment bloggers. I cannot wait to see how this unfold. I learnt it will make use hybrid broadcast broadband TV(HBB). Hbb is an improvement on Internet protocol television(IPTV). It combines satellite, terrestrial and internet to provide end consumers with television services. Only a fool will not want the progress of his country. If this happens, satellite tv will be cheaper in Africa starting with Nigeria. They intend to offer “direct to home” satellite television service(DTH).
Do not underestimate the power of the consumers. Am looking at the buzz surrounding TSTV Africa from a different perspective entirely. That of a “wake-up call” on all existing payTV companies in Nigeria out of which D*TV is the leader. People are complaining that the cost of subscribing to a cable tv that broadcast sports is too much. The state of the nation is not helping matters. No thanks, tho this time of recession. D*tv particular have been trying to woo back their customers since the start of the season. They are currently offering a promo on GOtv, they did one for existing customers and now, they want to appease the spirit of their compact subscribers.
We can give the credit to TSTV, dongles, and IPTV for this. I mean, many are willing to save for months to buy a big dish instead of paying for ds*v premium account. This is competition and as much as I wouldn’t want to take sides, I will say all thanks to FTA, dongles and IPTV. And of recent Tvst Africa.
DStv compact UCL football for existing compact subscribers
What does this mean?
The above denotes that all existing customers of Dstv that have stayed connected without interruption from the month of August to September can now enjoy UEFA champions league group stages matches.
How did it happen?
It happened that I have a very close neighbour who is a current ds*v subscriber. He has been loyal to them for months after sports 24 HD went off. He loves EPL with a passion. However, as much as he loves to watch UCL, he cannot afford to pay almost 15k for premium. He has enjoyed all the previous promos from D*tv including the just concluded 1 month free for all existing customers.
My man got the news of TSTV Africa and he has already kept his 5000 for October 2017 when it will be launched. On the other hand, he is due to renew his DSTV subscription today but he already told me that he will not renew since he cannot get champions league on his #6300 compact bouquet.
To my utter surprise, he ran to me this morning showing me the message that he received from D*tv telling him to renew before his due date which is today. The message read further that once this is done, he will be eligible to watch “UEFA champions league” group stages on his compact bouquet. This sounds like a bait. I asked him for his opinion but he said he felt it was a scam that how will they open all sports channels for the compact user just like that. I asked him to call their call centre to confirm. He did and he renewed his subscription.
After renewal, nothing happened and we wait for some hours. We later send cleared all the error codes applicable to D*TV and the channels came up immediately. They added SS5HD, SS12, SS12, SS6HD and ss2HD. I don’t know if ss2HD is available on compact bouquet but i am sure ss11,ss12,ss5 and ss6 are not. Still, in disbelieve, we waited for the matches to start and we were able to watch at least five matches.
I choose not to write about it yesterday because I wanted to be sure it wasn’t a fluke. The game is on, the stage is set. The competition is really hot. I do not know the terms and conditions that apply to this offer. But I am very sure it is applicable to only existing compact subscribers. It could also be their mini response to the competitive threat of TSTV. That notwithstanding, D*tv will have to do even more if the child that is currently conceived by TSTV Africa is delivered successfully on the 1st of October 2017.

DStv compact UCL football this is getting interesting. I pray we have a replica of MTN/Econet vs glo in the satellite tv terrain.
