Welcome to another record-setting article. Today’s post will be as explanatory as it educating. At the end of the day, even a first timer will know the definition, scope and limits Pirate decryption & whistleblowing or leaking. The word pirate is wide and ambiguous. Out of the total of the world population, hardly can we boast of %10 who have never been a party to piracy.
The parties involved in piracy include those who consciously, ambivalently or sub-consciously participates in it. In another twist, piracy is done with the full aim of making a profit off content owners’ properties.

Everyone reading this article might in one way or the other partook in pirated content. Piracy is so widespread so much so that it is difficult to dichotomize it. There variations to piracy. Buying of copies of digital contents online from an authorised source because it is cheaper is piracy. Downloading modded or crack apps amount to piracy.
Copying another person’s work without permission or reference is copyright infringement. Stealing someone else’s idea and making use of it as yours is piracy. The list goes on and on. For the purpose of this article, we are limiting ourselves to “Cale television piracy which is otherwise known as pirate decryption”.
What is Pirate decryption or cable television piracy?
According to wiki Cable television piracy, is defined as a form of copyright infringement or call it intellectual property theft that, is the act of obtaining unauthorized access to cable television services. In like fashion, Pirate decryption(Which is not same as sea pirates) most often refers to the decryption, or decoding, of pay TV or pay radio signals without permission from the original broadcaster.
Away from the buzzwords used above, what this means is that pirate decryption is an organized crime. It involves offering a service which you do not have the permission to offer to some sets of buyers for a fee. Even if you are not commercialising the pirated content, you are still doing something wrong.
Is Pirate decryption only popular in Africa?
Of course not!!. We have more severe cases of piracy outside the shores of Africa. The only dividing line is that, when those in the developed countries of the world want to punish an offender, they know how to get them. Also, our government in Africa especially Nigeria are not doing enough to protect and empower consumers. If you can hardly feed twice daily, how will you be able to afford a cable subscription?
Like I said in one my previous articles, pirate makes money in countries where you have a high concentration of poor people. In the USA, there has been a hack on Directtv providers such as Echostar and DirectTV for the past 6 years. The patch was just recently quelled after six years. The hackers even have popular websites where the offer supports to their subscribers. Learn more here. In a nutshell, broadcast piracy and pirate decryption is not an Africa only thing.
Why would a payTV company allow a pirate to circumvent its services
My esteem readers, there is no known foolproof countermeasure to piracy decryption. Well, let me say if all men are equal, then piracy will cease to exist. But who will do the dirty jobs if all men are rich? Firstly, the hackers are not born with a silver spoon. They went into it for survival. They look for exploits in the system and attack. make their copies and sell.
If there is a way to totally shutout pirates, every payTV provider will adopt such measure. Unfortunately, there is no such measure currently. There are only two major deterrents. 1. If you stop buying and 2. if the particular pay-tv is expensive to hack. Dstv can still be hacked, in fact, someone out there may have hacked them. However, DStv is not easy to hack and even if you hack them, your buyers may be worse off. Similarly, bein is also difficult to hack. Although you can get most channels that you can get unofficially through IPTV. This is why IPTV is considered the greater threat by paytv operators.
To summarise this sub-topic, any Paytv company will not expressly or impliedly allow a hacker to hack their system. Unfortunately, they cannot help it ost of the time.
Why can’t payTV owners simply continue blocking the venerabilities with one-click
It is either said than done. To start with, they must trace the exploit used by the hackers. Secondly, they will analyse the extent of damage and mode of recovery. In most cases, they will need to change their encryption technology altogether. New decoders, new smart cards and even new engineers. All of these can cost millions of dollars to implement. I know you are aware of when mytv, canal, DStv changed their decoders in Africa. There are projects that involve high capital outlay.
The citizens are not willing to pay for a subscription. Some are willing to pay bitt the signal is not available in their country(This constitute 80% of the reasons why people use IPTV streaming devices). Hackers want a return on their investment. Dealers need a fatter account. Installers need to feed their families. Bloggers need sales or and traffic. All of these contributes to relentless efforts to keep providing solutions.
Parties involved in pirate decryption or circumvention of PayTV contents
The following are the parties who make a hack successful:
- The hacker: this unknown individual who more often than not is a blackhat hacker is a talented and skilful computer programmer. He comes up with the idea and the execution. Others, that I will list below are a mere facilitator. For the record, the real hackers are the most difficult to catch.
- A staff within the cable tv company: Some staff help the hackers. maybe there is a discontent among the engineers one of them might just leak the secret.
- Hackers allies: they are also technocrats that are a specialist in their own field. Thye often buys off the exploit from the original hackers and pay millions. These people receive all the glories and accolades. For example in Africa, we all think, qsat hacked canal, tiger hacked others, Gsky hacked powervu and so on. This is not always the case and that is why it is impossible to stop piracy now.
- installers and samplers: This set of people simply help in the testing exploit. I used to do that back in the days. I mean testing of the end products
We are not done yet, do not miss the engaging conclusion on the next page>>>>

even if you do not sell you are still commiting something wrong. What is the name given to this wrong? Otherwise your article is trithfull
@Isaac: which wrong. please explain for all to see.I did not start blogging about satellite two weeks ago when sports 24 HD was revived? I have been here before most of the sat bloggers out there. In Nigeria, there is only one site that was established before mine naijatalk. Please let us be objective with whatever we do. I am a blogger and I alongside other bloggers including my accuser are are parties to the leaking process. But it doesn’t start with us. It starts with the manufacturers who want to sell, installers and so on.
I mean your article on piracy where you said piracy involves making some profit. You further said even just open channels for non profit making is wrong. Clarify on the latter
@Isaac; what am saying is that piracy is piracy. You will most likely get away with it if you are using it for personal use. For example, I have downloaded and used cr*acked apps that were not paid for. But immediately i realise that I actually need that app, I will buy them so that i can get full support from the developers. Hope you understand now? The main reason why some hacker pirate software is to test them to see if it is worth buying or not. Other pirate contents to make sales.
