There are many little habits that people usually don’t take seriously, which may cause serious safety or health hazards. For example, the last thing many people do before going to bed is to charge their mobile phones to ensure that they have sufficient power for the next day. Apple recently posted a warning on its support page, “Important Safety Information for iPhone,” reminding users to never charge their iPhone in a ventilation-restricted area such as under a pillow or blanket. Don’t charge your phone and place it under your pillow. Never sleep on a plugged-in device, even if this is not an Apple device.
Specifically, the warning states: “Never sleep on a plugged-in device, power adapter, or wireless charger, or place them under a blanket, pillow, or your body. Keep your iPhone and power adapter, and Use special caution if you have a medical condition that affects your body’s ability to sense heat.”
According to reports, there have been previous incidents of fires caused by mobile phones hidden under pillows or blankets while charging. Therefore, this warning applies not only to iPhones but to all smartphones.
Apple also reminds users to avoid using damaged or inferior chargers and data cables. Apple recommends using third-party charging accessories that are MFi certified (Made for iPhone), or other third-party products that comply with USB 2.0 or higher standards and relevant country/region safety regulations.
“Using a damaged cable or charger, or charging in a wet environment can cause fire, electric shock, injury, or damage to iPhone or other property,” Apple said.
Apple also reminds you not to use the power adapter in wet locations, such as near a sink, bathtub, or shower room, and never plug or unplug the power adapter with wet hands.
Stop using the power adapter and any cables if any of the following conditions exist:
The power adapter plug or prongs are damaged. The charging cable is frayed or otherwise damaged. The power adapter is seriously affected by moisture or water. The power adapter was dropped, causing damage to the casing.
Charging your phone correctly and safely not only allows your phone to run more safely, it also protects your own life. The above security rules apply to all smartphones, not just Apple phones. Buy qualified and guaranteed chargers and data cables, don’t be greedy for cheap and lose the watermelon.
