Kodi has now been largely silenced by TV right holders cracking down on its 3rd party Addons: those looking to stream illegal contents now look elsewhere

I have been observing this for a while. I mean Kodi silenced!!! It doesn’t come as a surprise to me personally because the whole hype has been just too overwhelming. Today, I will touch 3 areas namely: 1. Advantages/Pros of Kodi, The cons and why it is gradually losing popularity.

A brief history of Kodi and its usefulness 

As we already know that kodi is a neutral open-source media player that is capable of being installed on a wide range of devices. Devices that can run Kodi include android tv boxes, smart tv, PC, phones and so on. kodi addons (previously known as XBMC), which started as a media center application developed for Xbox Consoles back in 2002, soon branched out as a standalone media platform that became a household name.

Developers took advantage of the open-source nature of Kodi to build 3rd party add-ons that through which Kodi users can watch paid-for contents for free. Android tv boxes(Also known as Kodi boxes were developed and they were being sold as an alternative to their expensive cable subscriptions.Kodi users generally utilized the free, illegal and copyrighted resources because who doesn’t’ like free lunch?

The abundance of third party apps(known as add-ons) have left Kodi with a questionable reputation as these apps can be used to stream premium contents free.

Just as I explained in one of my articles, it is illegal to stream copyrighted contents free without the express permission of the content holders. This is irrespective of the medium through which you are streaming the contents

WHY DO WE USE KODI TO STREAM COPYRIGHTED CONTENTS?

Everyone loves good thing. We all tend to get premium stuff for free if possible. Hence. I would highlight while people still use Kodi to stream paid-for contents like movies and sports free despite the legal implications.

• COST

We all love free things. If Youtube were to be paid, only the elite will be using it. The first advantage of Kodi is that it is free. It’s free to download and free to use.

• COMPATIBILITY

Similar to cost is the wide spectrum of devices that are compatible with Kodi. For compatibility, Kodi gets another 10/10 stars. Kodi works on lots of different devices: Android, iOS, Mac and Windows computers, Amazon Fire devices, Android TV boxes, and others.

• USER EXPERIENCE

Kodi is a very slick platform with an intuitive, pleasing user interface. You can customize the look and home screen. It is every bit as shiny and smooth as other, much pricier home media platforms.

• SUPPORT

Apart from regular updates, you will not come through for you as far as support is concerned. You shouldn’t expect much from free software anyways. Since Kodi is free, you’re on your own with how to use it and troubleshoot any problems.

STREAMING

Kodi gets 8/10 stars for its streaming. By that, we mean using Kodi to stream content from the internet — TV shows, live sports, movies, etc. The pros and cons of Kodi for streaming mostly come down to personal preference.

One of the biggest ‘pros’ is that you can watch just about anything you want. Kodi live TV is powerful, and its DVR/PVR abilities are impressive. That means you can stream live TV, live sports, full episodes of shows, movies, and more. Kodi has a ton of flexibility and power.

• CONTENT

The contents you can get on your Kodi player is countless. There are literally thousands of Kodi add-ons.

• SECURITY & PRIVACY

If you rate Kodi on security, it will get 2/10 stars.  Unfortunately, Kodi’s security issues are a real concern. Users are vulnerable to hackers, as well as spies intent on monitoring their activity or stealing personal information. That may include federal and corporate interests looking to catch copyright violators.

While Kodi is intuitive for the most part, it loses a star because finding the content you want to watch on Kodi can be tricky. Sometimes, it’s downright frustrating.

Installing add-ons can also be confusing, especially for beginners. Most of the unofficial add-ons are the most confusing.

Problems with streaming quality and speed

Kodi’s stream quality can be poor at times with most third-party add-ons. Some people don’t mind dealing with buffering or stalled connections when they’re watching TV without a subscription, but some would rather pay a little for a better streaming experience.

Streaming pirated content is no longer a grey area, in fact, it is very black and white. If you are accessing content for free such as sport, TV and films for which you’d normally need a subscription, or go to the cinema, or buy a DVD, this is illegal.

When the USA and the Uk are against anything, that thing is bound to falter. Two of the world most powerful nations have frowned at the activities of Kodi 3rd party add-ons. It is only a matter of time before the impact on the popularities of such add-ons starts to diminish.
