With the development of mobile Internet technology and the maturity of core hardware technologies of wearable devices such as low-power chips and flexible circuit boards, all major mobile phone manufacturers have entered the field of smartwatches. Currently, we have four non-apple watch operating systems.
So, for consumers, in the face of the many smartwatches on the market, how to choose the one that suits them best? In response to this problem, we have looked at a recent evaluation, interpretation, and comparison of the four major systems in the current Android smartwatch market. Let’s take a look at this one after the other.
The four major non-WatchOS systems?
Apart from Apple Watch’s watchOS system, we can understand that in the current smartwatch market, there are four systems: WearOS, colorOS, RTOS, and TizenOS.
Especially relevant:
Samsung’s TizenOS
Basically, all Samsung smartwatches run on TizenOS. the list includes but not limited to gear s, s1, s2, active, active 2, and so on. Officially, TizenOS is exclusive to Samsung. Its advantage is that it can control the Samsung ecological chain through Samsung Bixby, such as smart homes, car man-machine entrances, etc. However, because Samsung’s presence in China is low, and software such as Weibo, which is commonly used by Chinese users, has not yet been adopted, its usability is still low in China.
Google’s Android WearOS
The largest market share is Google’s self-developed WearOS. However, the problem is that WearOS can’t enjoy the advantages of Google’s smart assistant and Play Store ecosystem in China and relies heavily on the smart ecosystem built by manufacturers. However, due to Google’s lack of attention, third-party smartwatches based on WearOS have encountered great resistance in terms of ecology and occasionally have frequent freezes and fever when using some apps.
RTOS Watch System
Then, there is RTOS. The system is characterized by a lack of independent communication capabilities, an inability to install APPs, and an inability to interact with their respective ecosystems. However, it has unique advantages for health management, sports management, and long battery life, so it is very targeted. Sex customers’ favorite example, LiteOS, used in the Huawei GT series, belongs to the RTOS system, which many business people favor for its stronger battery life performance.

OPPO Android-based ColorOS Watch system
The last is the OPPO Watch equipped with the magic change Android. This system is not based on WearOS or Linux but based on the Color OS Watch system built on Android 8.1. Compared with other watch systems, OPPO is equivalent to rebuilding a watch system.
Partly, due to the open-source nature of the Android system, the Color OS Watch system is far more scalable than other watch customization systems. “OPPO Watch operating system with the Android kernel is more difficult than using Wear OS directly, but the user experience will be better.”
In addition, the ColorOS Watch system has to deal with solving the problem of scarcity of applications. To build your own application ecosystem, first of all, you must have a better compatible unified experience with mobile phones, and, secondly, expand the number of third-party applications. The overall software adaptation resources and difficulty are very large. OPPO directly held the OPPO Watch App Development Contest with the theme “Hello Watch”.
It is understood that the functions covered by the OPPO watch APP development contest include areas such as sports, health, efficiency, life, social, and small games. The competition is to attract developers through awards. I believe that it can solve the problem of insufficient application of OPPO Watch to the greatest extent.
FINAL THOUGHT
In summary, the four systems, WearOS, Android ColorOS, RTOS, and TizenOS, have advantages and disadvantages. I think that OPPO’s Android Color OS Watch system is at a stage of insufficient application ecology at this stage. Still, they should be able to overcome this through the OPPO APP development competition. Ranking them in terms of apps ecosystem, I will put wear os first, tizen>>oppo>rtos.
