What is a DStv extra view Setup without the DStv User band frequencies indexes? In this post, I shall be dropping the full list of all the user band index combinations available for all DStv.
It should also be noted that these user bands can only work with DStv Xtraview-capable decoders only. such decoders include Explora 1, 2a, and Explora 3a. For the best results, I will advise you to use smart LNB lmx501.
Important notes on Using DStv User band frequencies indexes with SLNB or 24-1Z or Explora Switches
- It is now impossible to share User Band Index for tuner 3 if both Explora 1 and Explora 2A are in the mix. The reason is that they use different transponders for the video-on-demand (VOD) stream. However, if there are 2 or 3 Explora model 1, or, 2 or 3 Explora model 2A involved can those two or three shares?
- Also, which Indexes are chosen and their order is not particularly important. What is important is that you need to prevent the sharing of Indexes.
- When Explora is in the mix, all of Explora’s Index settings are best done first. Then, you can proceed to do the associated Frequency settings.
- Lastly, note that some Frequencies differ between the Smart LNB (SLNB) & 24-1Z Smart Switch and the older 5-1 & 5-2 Explora Switches.

Additional Information on the User-band Indexes
- Unicable ports need to be terminated with the supplied 75 Ohm terminators if unused. Don’t leave it unscrewed
- If you are using Explora switches or smart switche(24-1Z), you are only eligible to use User Bands 0 to 23
- In addition, Explora switches 5-1 and 5-2 can only use the first 5 user band indexes. Also, when you are using index 3, use 1892 as your frequency and when you are using index 4, use frequency 2040 with your Explora switches. Sadly, the 5-1 switch does not have any markings on it about what version it is.
- If need be, two (*or three) Exploras of the same model can share their tuner 3’s index of choice (older Exploras are called model 1, newer Exploras are called model 2A and 3A respectively). But three Exploras is only possible with the 24-1Z switch and smart LNB.
I have one explorer decoder running with one small one as extra view. Then another explorer running separately but they are all connect in one LNB. Now the separate explorer had issues and I did a swap. As I return it,the fregency of the two explorer started clashing. I situation where one will come the other will say no signal, next minute the other will go to no signal.
Please how can I set the two to work again
@Martich: please specify a separate userband for both Exploras
How do I go about extraview with secondary decoder running on a separate dish with smart LNB?
How do i chose decoder 2in the secondary decoder
Good day,
Is it possible to have Xtraview Secondary decoders connected to a different dish and SLNB?
@EJ: Yes it is possible
Hi Lemmy,
Just to corroborate your reply, my decoder is a secondary one and I have been using the extra view with another dish at a different location for a while now. Now I have the 143-4 error code continuously displayed, which points towards no communication from the primary decoder. How do I solve this, please? There is still a running subscription+XtraView fee. Thank you
@kel: if every setting checks Good, then you may need to call multichoice go help you reset your xtraview subscription. If i were you though, i will first seek a second opinion from a certified satellite installer just to be sure nothing is broken
I had an experience recently. In my house I have a Quattro LNB and a DSTV switch indoors for distributing dstv signal to my rooms I used to have only the old Zapper that has RF out port .I recently purchased the new Explora and added it to Unicable output of the DSTV switch .When both decoders are running simultaneously the Explora decoder keeps losing signal 20seconds.. Immediately you switch off the Zapper decoder, the signal for Explora stabilizes. That means you whenever I want to watch the Explora,I must ensure that I first switch it on before I power on the Zapper decoder. Any the explanation for this??
@Temidtayo: did you use a deplexer for the explora 1?. read this post on how to properly setup extraview on various DStv models. How to Combine and Setup XtraView/Extra View on Various DStv Decoders

Hi Leny is it possible to disconnect extra view x2 decoders from primary decoder at will and at random times through the day and month on purpose. we are sharing with someone in the house and the primary is in his room.
Seems like this person is somehow deliberately disconnecting the other decoders one at a time at random times. then hours or even a day later other decoders are getting signal again. when his decoder is always receiving.
Error is always “waiting for primary”.
Please help.
