MANUALLY SETUP/ CONFIGURE A MOBILE PHONE FOR WEB or INTERNET ACCESS (A universal guide)


You may ask yourself, couldn’t there be a universal configuration settings for all phone types? well the answer is there is a universal guide to help you configure any phone type for web access. And in the course of this article i shall be explaining in details how you can manually configure major phones for web browsing phones such as Nokia, samsung, motorola e.t.c It can be use as a guide for anyone who wishes to create a manual internet profile to browse the web.
In my illustration i will  use the settings of MTN in nigeria. However you can substitute this with the configuration settings of your service provider’s.happy reading…

Manual configuration Settings for nokia symbian^3, Anna, Belle Using MTN Nigeria as a case study e.g Nokia N8

PRESS MENU KEY>>SETTINGS>>CONNECTIVITY
Scroll down to settings under connectivity window
Then tap on destinations>>choose any destination you want to use for your connections from the list e.g internet, wap services,intranet or uncategorize.>>
Am using internet as my case study.
From internet windows press options>>New accesspoint it will prompt you to Automatically check for available accesspoints select yes.

This will list the available accesspoints in most cases wilan and packet data.

For  the the purpose of this post we choose packet data
Here enter packet data access point name(also know as APN)  (like i said am using mtn Nigeria for this tutorial)

enter web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net press okay and you will see your new settings.
To edit it  open it and you will see:
Connection name: web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net
Data bearer: packet data
accesspoint name: web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net
Username: web
prompt password: No  (unless you want your connection to be secure(its not worth it anyway)
Password: web
Authentication: normal
Homepage: http://www.google.com

Next goto Options>> Advance settings
Under this window enter the following values
Network type: IPv4
Phone IP address: Automatic
DNS address: Automatic
Proxy server address: 10.199.212.2
Proxy port number: 8080
That is all save and return to the previous page

Configuration settings for  nokia java phones example here is nokia 3110c

PRESS MENU KEY>>CONFIGURATION>>
SCROLL DOWN TO PERSONAL CONFIGURATION SETTINGS
Under this you will press options>>add new choose Web>> then fill the follows
Account name: MTN GPRS
Homepage: http://lemmymobile.com
Username: web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net
Password: web
Use preferred access point: no
Access point settings: open>>
Proxy: enable
Proxy address: 10.199.212.2
Proxy address: 8080
Data bearer: Packet data
Bearer settings:
Open and complete the followings
Packet data access point: web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net
network type: IPv4
Authentication type: normal
Username: web
Password: web
Go back twice to personal configuration settings there you will see the settings  you’ve created you can then activate it for web or return to configurations to activate it as default for all applications

The settings below works for most sony ericsson phones as you need to first create a data account

before setting up an internet profile goto. Menu >> Settings >> Connectivity >> Data comm. >> Data accounts >> New Account >> GPRS DATA >> Write the name and save.
Select Edit:
APN: web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net
Username: web
Password: web Leave the rest and change
Authentication: PAP only.
Now goto Connectivity and
Under Connectivity,
select Internet Settings >> Internet Profile >> Give the profile a title >> Connect Using: select the previous settings created under Data Comm >> save then click more >> settings.
Internet mode:HTTP
Use proxy: Yes
Proxy Address:10.199.212.2
Port: 8080 Leave the rest. And save.
Choose the settings in your settings for java to enable it work on your applications under connectivity.

Configuration settings for  For samsung phones

Setting up an Internet Profile on A Samsung X820

. If you need to set up or change an Internet Profile, don’t worry – it is very straightforward. However, you will need to find out some information from your network provider before you start the setup process:
Proxy IP : A series of four numbers, each up to three digits in length, separated by full stops e.g for MTN nigeria 010.199.212.002
Proxy port : A single number, up to four digits in length  e.g 8080
APN address : Varies between network providers and type of contract (Pay monthly and PAYG). It should look similar to an internet address e.g for MTN nigeria it is web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net
Login ID : Usually very short and simple, but varies between providers(for MTN nigeria it is web)
Password : web
Once you have this information, that’s all you need
to start the set up process. From the standby screen press Menu to enter the main menu. Scroll left once to highlight ‘Browser’ and press Select  Scroll down to highlight the seventh menu item, ‘Browser settings’, and press Select . Here you’ll see a list of preset Internet profiles that you can choose between if you’re on one of the listed networks. If not, you’ll need to add a new connection. Press Options and then scroll down to highlight ‘Add new connection’ and press Select .

First you’ll need to enter a Profile name so that you can identify the profile later on. Enter a name of your choice, such as ‘Internet’, then press Down to highlight ‘Homepage URL’ . Enter the website address you would like to use as your homepage e.g http://www.google.com, then press Down. Press Down to highlight ‘Proxy’ and make sure the box is ticked. If not, press the i button in the centre of the direction pad Press Down to highlight ‘IP address’. You’ll need the information you found out from network provider for this bit. Enter the provided number here. Note: the full stops will be entered automatically e.g   Press Down to enter the Proxy port e.g 8080. Type in the port number you were given. Now press down until you reach a button marked ‘Bearer’. This allows you to choose how you connect to the internet. Unless your contract does not allow GPRS access, press left or right on the direction pad to ensure this is set to ‘GPRS’ for faster internet access. Press down to highlight ‘Advanced settings’  then press the ‘ i’ button in the centre of the direction pad to enter an extra menu. You’ll start with the ‘APN’ highlighted. Enter the APN address your network provider’s e.g web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net .APN address . Press Down to highlight the Login ID or username as it is sometimes called field, then enter your new one e.g web. Do the same for password, then press Save and you will return to the previous settings. Make sure you press Save once more to store your new Internet profile and return to the ‘Browser settings’ menu. Last of all, you need to set your browser to use your new profile: Highlight your new profile in the ‘Browser settings’ menu. Note that it may appear above the pre-set items . Press Options , then choose ‘Activate’ and press Select to set your browser to use the new profile

Settings>Web Access>Web Sessions highlight your provider and press the “menu” scroll down to “edit”

Note: You must have a data plan with your service provider to plan this.
A. Set Data Network profile:
1. Tap Setup.
2. Tap Data Network .
3. Tap the Menukey.
4. Tap New to open the new profile menu.
5. Enter configuration settings as
described in the table below. Note: Tap the line in a field to enter the setting. Pull down the scroll bar to
see additional fields.
6. When you’re finished entering
information, tap Save to store the profile.

B.HOW TO Set A Browser profile:
1. Tap Browser .
2. Tap the Menu key.
3. Tap Setup.
4. Tap Profiles .
5. Tap the Menu key.
6. Tap New to open the new profile menu.
7. Enter configuration settings as
described in the table below.
Note: Tap the line in a field to enter the setting. Pull down the scroll bar to
see additional fields.
8. When you’re finished entering
information, tap Save to store the profile.

NOW TO THE NETWORK PROFILE

Glo Mobile Network Settings: Data Network profile settings

Profile Name: MTN GPRS
APN: web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net
Primary Gateway IP: 10.199.212.2
Port: 8080
Note: Leave other settings blank

Browser profile settings for MTN nigeria

Profile Name: MTN GPRS
Homepage: www.google.com
Data Network profile settings
Profile Name: MTN GPRS
APN: web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net
User Name: web
Password: web
Timeout: Off
Primary Gateway IP: 10.199.212.2
Port: 80
Secondary Gateway IP: 66.209.11.32
Port: 80
Note: Leave other settings blank

FOR  CONFIGURATION SETTINGS ON CHINA AND TECHNO PHONES COMPLETE THE  following steps:

MENU>>SERVICES>>DATA ACCOUNT
Here is where you will have to first create your accesspoint/data account

GPRS:>>SETTINGS>>ACCOUNT NAME: MTN WAP
APN: web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net
USERNAME: web
PASSWORD: web
AUTH TYPE: normal
Now go to internet service

INTERNET SERVICE
1. Select sim
2. Profiles 1 or 2
Then you see the following options
1. Activate profile
2. Edit profile
3. Delete
Choose edit profile and you will see the followings:
Profile Name : MTN Wap
Homepage: http://blog.lemmymobile.com
Data account: select the profile you have created earlier under data account
4. Connection type: HTTP
a. Use proxy
B. proxy Address: 010.199.212.002
C. Proxy port: 8080
5. username: web
6. Password: web
That is all just return once and activate your new setting.
