Yesterday, I posted some vital information about Gsky v8 HD. One of its features is the ability to record your tv program and save it to any USB device storage. This feature is generally called PVR. First of all, I will like to define “PVR”. A personal video recorder (PVR) is an interactive TV recording device. This can be a satellite receiver or any set-top box. In essence, it is a sophisticated set-top box with recording capability. This post will cover activating Gsky V8 personal video recording.
SOME HINTS ON RECORDING AND PLAYING PVR VIDEOS
To start with, i will say not every free to air standalone decoder can record programs. Secondly, not all free to air with pvr functions are capable of recording all channels. Going further, I mean, some FTA decoders can record free to air channels but they can’t record channels that are unlocked by non-official methods like smart cards. To clarify this, I mean even when qsat was opning ds*v channels way back, qsat couldn’t record the opened channels. Similarly, T-link can record streams from every
Similarly, some powerful decoders like T-link can record streams from every channel with or without the “$” sign. Gsky V8 offers the same feature but with a wider compatibility. With V8, you can record on your USB flash/pen drive. On t-link and some others, you need to either format your drive to NTFS or use an already formatted external Harddrive. Activating Gsky V8 personal video recording was tested on every channel that is currently opening on it.

In addition, to the above, there is this limitation on every video that you record via a PVR decoder. The problem is with playing the recorded file(which is mainly in .ts format) with any media player outside the decoder. In other to play such files on your pc, mac or mobile phones, you will need to convert from .ts to .mp4. I have a link that can help you with the conversion here. Noteworthy, the conversion is applicable also to all kinds of PVR decoders not only to IKS or FTA decoders. Even when you are using a satellite provider branded decoder, you can try this out.
Activating Gsky V8 personal video recording the how-to
Without wasting any time with flowery words. I will rather take you through the steps immediately. I will start with how to record any program on v8 before going into the details of recording TP streams on the Gsky V8.
For you to record channels that you are currently viewing, you just need to press the red button on the remote control when you are watching the program the press stop when you are done with the recording.
HOW TO RECORD OR CAPTURE THE TP STREAM ON GSKY V8
- First of all, Insert a USB Disk to GSKY V8 rear panel USB port. Here we give an example, using TS stream of Intelsat20 68.5E TP (3974H19500)
2.When watching TV programs in full-screen mode, use the remote control to enter the number keys 7791, began to record the current TP stream.
3.A message box will appear at the bottom of the screen to show the progress of the recording. After a few seconds, the message box will automatically disappear
4.Watch the screen as you will see the recording process,”REC” character at the right-top of the screen
5.When you want to stop recording, press the stop button at the bottom-left of the remote control to stop recording
In conclusion, let me emphasise that recording channels on PVR decoders be it official or unofficial ones involve similar processes. While this post fully covers activating Gsky V8 personal video recording, it goes without saying that you can also apply the same method on other PVR decoders
